Why I’m not Stoic anymore
The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience
Dear Friends,
Last night, somewhere between consciousness and dreams, I realized I’ve been living someone else’s philosophy.
But instead of feeling lost, I treasure these moments when my mind wanders freely, dreams and reality dance together, and truth finds its way in.
In this liminal space, I realized: I am not a Stoic. Looking back, my most pivotal life choices were guided by something far from rational calculation:
- I broke an engagement when love called from an unexpected direction.
- I abandoned the academic career because my soul craved more.
- I reimagined myself at thirty, stepping onto a stage no spreadsheet would recommend.
- I moved to a country that made my friends question my sanity. Each time, logic screamed ‘Stop’ while something deeper whispered ‘Do it.‘
The Third Layer
I’ve discovered that rationality isn’t the pinnacle of human consciousness. There’s something beyond—what I call “The Eyes of the Gods.” It’s that third, transcendent layer of awareness where eureka moments, gut feelings, and pure love reside. Last night, it awakened in me—something more profound than mere emotion, vaster than logic could contain.
Those who’ve experienced psychedelics might recognize this territory—that profound sense of oneness, the glimpse of something our ordinary minds can’t fully grasp. But you don’t need molecules to access this wisdom. You’ll find it in the creative flow, in those moments before sleep claims you, in quiet walks where nature’s patterns suddenly make perfect sense.
I’ve come to see rationality as a compass, not the captain. Every significant choice I’ve made emerged first from intuition. Only later, connecting the dots backward, could I see the logic—like following a trail of breadcrumbs back to a destination I’d already found.
When was the last time your most rational decision brought you joy?
Can a planned life yield something beautifully unexpected?
I’m not suggesting we abandon logic—it’s a faithful servant but a poor master. I believe the duality of rational versus irrational is too simplistic. There is a third layer of understanding that transcends both, which communicates with us in whispers. This layer is accessible during those rare moments when we dare to listen—when we create, dream, wander, or wonder. It’s in those times when everything feels perfectly aligned.
You’ve felt it too, haven’t you? That knowing that precedes understanding. The clarity that comes not from thinking, but from being. It visits you in unexpected moments:
- When a song brings tears you can’t explain.
- In that split second before making a life-changing decision.
- During conversations that feel more like remembering than learning.
- In dreams that feel more real than waking life.
A Call to Listen
Listen to me: you don’t need to be a new-age fanatic. This wisdom isn’t some mystical bullshit—it’s hardwired into your nervous system. It’s been there since before you could think, sending you signals through your body, dreams, and those gut feelings you keep ignoring.
The question isn’t whether you have access to this wisdom. The question is: are you ready to trust it?
Start small. Notice those moments when time seems to pause, when clarity arrives uninvited when your body knows before your mind catches up. These aren’t glitches in your rational operating system—they’re glimpses of a deeper truth, inviting you home to yourself.
This wisdom isn’t something to fear or force. It’s already within you, speaking through your body, dreams, and deepest knowing. All you need to do is remember how to listen.
