Why do you postpone your happiness?

You're trading your life for "Someday"

You're trading your life for "Someday"

“There is no real happiness for humans. The only thing that counts is the proceeding towards a goal you’ve set for yourself.”

Every day, you’re making a dangerous bet against time.

You have dreams. Starting a business. Becoming an actor. Reading more books. Yet you remain trapped in the cycle of “someday”:

  • “I’ll start reading when I have more time.”
  • “I’ll pursue my passion once I’m financially stable.”
  • “I’ll start my business once I land more clients.”

Two thousand years ago, Seneca asked, “Why do you postpone yourself?”

Nothing has changed. We’re still:

  • Working jobs we hate
  • Chasing materialistic dreams
  • Delaying personal growth
  • Living for a future that never arrives

You think you need more to start living - more money, more status, more security.

That’s the trap.

The Truth: The Less You Need, The More Life You Can Live

Consider this:

  • Your car payment chains you to a job you dislike
  • Your morning scrolling kills your creativity
  • Your “someday” mindset kills your present reality

I’m not telling you to quit everything and chase adventures. Instead, align your daily actions with your priorities:

  • Want to read more? Replace morning scrolling with reading
  • You want to lose weight? Gym memberships are cheap. Walking costs nothing
  • Aspire to act? Online acting schools run evening classes. TikTok is your free stage

The Path Forward: From Someday to Today

Let’s break down each step with practical examples:

1. Identify Your Real Priorities

Ask yourself: “If I had only 2 hours of free time each day, what would I spend them on?”

  • If writing keeps coming to mind, it’s probably more important than the Netflix shows you’re watching
  • If learning to cook brings you joy, maybe it deserves the time you spend scrolling through food photos

2. Eliminate Fake Needs

We often confuse wants with needs. Consider:

  • Do you need a premium subscription to every streaming service?
  • Could your current phone serve you for another year?
  • Is scrolling every morning through Instagram beneficial for your mental clarity?

Small changes here can free up time and resources for what truly matters.

3. Start Your Day With What Matters

The first hour sets the tone. For instance:

  • If health is a priority, start with a 15-minute walk
  • If writing that book matters, write one paragraph before checking emails
  • If learning is important, read 10 pages before social media

4. Build Systems That Serve Your Growth

Replace willpower with smart systems:

  • Want to read more? Keep a book by your coffee maker
  • Want to detox from social media? Set a timer for your scrolling sessions
  • Trying to eat better? Prep tomorrow’s lunch while making dinner

5. Exit the Postponement Loop

Start small, but start today:

  • Instead of “I’ll learn Spanish someday,” use a language app or follow Spanish content creators during your commute
  • Rather than “I’ll read when I have more time,” read 10 minutes after you wake up and 10 minutes before sleep
  • Instead of “I’ll write a book eventually,” write 100 words every morning

The Beauty of Small Steps

Remember: You don’t need to revolutionize your life overnight—small, consistent actions compound.

Life isn’t waiting for perfect conditions. It’s happening now, in these small moments of choice.

The question isn’t whether you have time, resources, or energy.

The question is: How can you use what you already have to move forward today?

Your future self will thank you not for grand plans but for small actions taken consistently.

To your journey,

Giulia
